Help With Energy Costs

Two schemes offering support with energy bills

There are two schemes offering help with energy costs (people may qualify for both).

Winter Fuel Payment (WFP)

Automatically paid to the bank accounts of everyone in receipt of state pension sometime in November or December (no need to apply). If an individual has income over £35,000, the equivalent amount of the WFP will be clawed back soon after through their tax code. Further information can be found at GOV.UK’s Winter Fuel Payment page.

Warm Home Discount (WHD)

The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off £150 discount off your electricity bill. If you are eligible, your electricity supplier will automatically apply the discount to your bill.

You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity and you’re eligible. Contact your supplier to find out.

If anyone is struggling with their energy costs, they could contact their own energy supplier (many have their own hardship fund) or Warm and Well North Yorkshire on 01609 767555.

Further information can be found at GOV.UK’s Warm Home Discount Scheme page.
