Planning a holiday?

Information and useful links to find travel insurance

We understand that finding affordable and comprehensive travel insurance when diagnosed with cancer can be difficult.

For people affected by cancer, travelling abroad and travel insurance can be complex and expensive, so we recommend you contact the Cancer Information team on 01423 557317 to ask for a list of specialist travel insurance providers, although we are unable to recommend any specific travel insurance company or broker. Some patients need a letter from their consultant to show they are fit to travel.

Macmillan Cancer Support has helpful information on their website about cancer and travel including information about insurance, effects of treatment, vaccinations etc.

The charity also has a travel insurance community forum where people share information about good travel insurance deals they have been able to find or to ask questions of others. You can join the conversation or look at comments.

Macmillan have produced a booklet ‘Travel and Cancer’ for anyone planning to travel abroad. You can view it online or download it, or ask for a hard copy from your local Macmillan Information Service.

MoneyHelper is a separate organisation whose Travel Insurance Directory provides a comprehensive list of Financial Conduct Authority-approved travel insurers.

We recommend you shop around before booking your holiday and ensure all your insurance needs are covered as the cheapest quote may not necessary be the best one for you.

In this video, Chris from Macmillan talks about getting travel insurance when you have cancer.
