Heating oil support

What we know so far…

You may be aware that the Government has recently pledged £52.4 million to support the people most affected by the rising cost of heating oil, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Until 1st April 2026 – apply via the ‘Household Support Fund’
There isn’t a fixed set of rules for who qualifies for the Household Support Fund, as each council determines its own criteria. However, it is typically aimed at people who are most in need of financial assistance. To find out what support is available, whether you’re eligible, and how to apply, you’ll need to contact your local council directly.

From 1st April 2026 – apply via your council’s ‘Crisis and Resilience Fund’
The Crisis and Resilience Fund was already set to replace the existing Household Support Fund from this date. However, the Government has now pledged a total of £27 million through this scheme to support low-income households in England that rely on oil heating.

Each local authority will determine its own eligibility criteria. We would therefore strongly recommend that you contact your local council directly for more detail about how to apply, should you be eligible.

Full details about the scheme have not yet been confirmed but more information can be found on the Money Saving Expert website.
