Exercise and Physical Activity

Stay fit and active this winter

You may have noticed the Exercise and Physical Activity display in our waiting room.

Even though it’s getting darker, colder and wetter, we really encourage people to maintain their exercise and physical activity as this has such a positive effect on:

  • Increasing physical resilience so your body can cope better with the stress of surgery or treatment
  • Improving mental wellbeing
  • Reducing the impact and side effects of cancer treatment
  • Helping reduce tiredness and manage pain
  • Supporting recovery, to help rebuild muscle mass and bone density which may have been lost during treatment
  • Reducing the chance of recurrence

Active Against Cancer is a free NHS service, available to anyone with a recent diagnosis of cancer or who is receiving cancer treatment in the Harrogate area. Patients can self refer to the service or can be referred by a healthcare professional.

Our display also includes information about the Harrogate 5K Your Way monthly parkrun event as well as indoor activities to keep active.

Extra points for anyone who spots Kerry Burton, our Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Assistant, sneaking in the photo!
