Practical support to live independently
What is adult social care?
Adult social care offers practical support to enable people to live independently. If you, or a family member, needs social care, the first step is to contact North Yorkshire Council’s adult social services department to request an assessment.
All adults over 18 can request a free assessment to determine if they are eligible for help or support.
What kind of social care support is available?
The support available is varied and could include:
- Support to help people develop the skills needed to live independently.
- Personal care
- Help with household tasks
- Daycare services
- Respite care
How do I pay for social care?
A ‘financial assessment’ or ‘means test’ will determine whether you qualify for free social care or need to contribute towards the cost of your care.
